After reading this book, I kept on thinking on its theme for about half an hour without a blink of an eye. I felt like it poured something 'meaningful' into my soul. It was logical as well as sentimental - what I look for in every book. There was such a deepness in the story that I felt myself roaming around in concentration camps without being seen by murderous soldiers. It was so painful to see dying inmate with no hope in his chest. I found myself tired with an arc-shaped back due to heavy burden of uncertainty, insult, work, cruelty and fear. I was feeling-less as they were due to constant torture, hunger and lack of sleep. But I saw hope-full ones too there having 'meanings in their life ' - love for their wives, urge to hug their children and to complete their partially-done work. It kept them physically straight and spiritually healthy.
In the first part of Book, FRANKL analyzed the situation of concentration camps and draw a psychological conclusion out from every moment there. He divided his story and their conclusions into three ERAS, literally. One, Early time after entering into camps. Two, Sufferings in-between. Three, Post-liberation era.
He quoted Dostoevski somewhere, " There is only one thing that I dread: not to be worthy of my sufferings ". He talks about choosing the right attitude while being suffered. He talks about finding meaning in sufferings if it cannot be avoided, having faith in the future, being courageous and enjoying inner freedom. He insists to be responsible for actions in life. He advises finding 'reason for being happy' instead of 'pursuing happiness'. You must have something to live for. You must recognize your inner value.
In the Second Part, He explained his method of therapy - Logotherapy. It is the most intellectual section of the book as it talks about human psycho deeply. He says everyone has a different meaning of life as there is nothing to be called best chess-move as it depends on the situation. He talks about some cases in this section. He shares the Basis of Logotherapy technique which can be very useful in everyone's life that is If you fear something, act opposite to it. For example, If there is sleeplessness, Try to be awakened. In a result, you will fall asleep, Amazing? There is some critique on some philosophical concepts which affect our psychology, in this section.
Let me get back to a book to revisit his beautiful quote: " Live as if you were living already for the second time and as if you had acted the first time as wrongly as you are about to act now! "
